The Kids
Wow, It's been a while since I wrote. I had planned on being much better at this! Oh well, onward and upward.....
I have two wonderful boys, 15 & 12. After a particularly good conversation with the 15 year old, (which doesn't happen as often as I'd like, after all I'm the Mom) I realized that I'm now one of THEM. I'd promised myself that I'd never be one of THEM, when I had kids! Wow!! Responsibility turns a person into the; "They just don't understand!" "I don't think they were ever our age!" "What an old fogey!" "You don't get our music!" etc. etc. etc.
Oh I hate being the grown-up sometimes! However, I've found that I love being a Mom to my boys and all of the good, bad and ugly stuff that accompanies being a parent. The most important lesson I've learned so far, is that one has to be an active listener. I never truly understood what that meant until I had kids.
The look in their eyes when they see you're really interested in what they're saying! It's so rewarding. My kids continually teach me lessons. Strange, but true!
